BI Nutraceuticals’ President and CEO George Pontiakos to Present "Risks of Adulteration and Spiking of Botanicals and Extracts" at Supplyside West

LONG BEACH, CA, October 5, 2010 —BI Nutraceuticals’ president and CEO George Pontiakos will be hosting an education session entitled "Risks of Adulteration and Spiking of Botanicals and Extracts" at the SupplySide West tradeshow being held in Las Vegas from October 20 - 22, 2010. On Wednesday, October 20 from 10 - 10:50 a.m. in Casanova Room 601, Pontiakos will discuss: techniques for proper species identification of materials; defined processes for traceability to ensure raw materials are compliant to specification, unadulterated and free of harmful residual pesticides or toxic chemicals; the liability of adulteration for the supplier and the customer; what companies should do to protect their products and their reputation, such as partnering with suppliers that practice GMPs and have established testing and traceability programs; and how to effectively work with the industry’s regulatory agencies.

"Contamination and adulteration of products is the premiere issue plaguing the natural products industry as a whole and unless safety and quality of raw materials trumps price as the foremost concern for manufacturers, it will continue to be the premiere issue," stated Pontiakos. "I look forward to discussing the impact of adulteration and spiking of materials on the industry as a whole and educating attendees on ways to avoid a similar fate for their companies."

As president and CEO of BI Nutraceuticals, Pontiakos oversees the company's worldwide operations. BI has manufacturing and processing facilities in Long Beach, Calif., Long Island, N.Y., Boonton, N.J. and Suzhou and Shanghai, China. Pontiakos has held senior leadership positions at several leading consulting, medical services and technology companies including Monovasia, which he founded, Oluma, Lucent, Agere, Ortel, NetVantage and Timeplex. He has wide-ranging experience in scaling geographically dispersed global companies to maximize their ability to successfully compete in the marketplace. Pontiakos holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Farleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey.
