RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, CALIFORNIA – BI, a global full-service manufacturer of plant-based ingredients, announced successful completion of its ISO/IEC 17025:2017 certification. After evaluation of the company’s quality management system and testing procedures, American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) recognized BI for demonstrating technical competence in the field of Biological Testing.
ISO 17025 is one of the highest standards that a testing laboratory can achieve. Internationally recognized, the certification indicates technical proficiency and the ability of a laboratory to generate accurate and consistent data.
“The ISO 17025 embodies BI’s commitment to quality within our manufacturing operations,” said Rupa Das, BI’s Vice President of Global Quality and Compliance. “The certification will provide further assurance to our customers related to accuracy of testing and reporting, as well as product safety. Due to the level of recognition for ISO/IEC 17025, the certification will also help facilitate acceptance of test reports between laboratories improving operations overall.”
ISO 17025 includes two main sections: management requirements, which relates primarily to operation of a laboratory’s quality management system; and technical requirements, which determine the reliability of the laboratory’s testing. A laboratory must have a thorough and documented quality management system to be considered for accreditation.
Quality testing has been a pivotal component of BI’s success over the past 40 years. The company offers over 400 ingredients that have been determined as safe for use in dietary supplements and food and beverages. For more information, visit botanicals.com.

BI offers more than 200 ingredients that have been determined as safe for use in foods and beverages by the FDA or FEMA, the Flavors and Extracts Manufacturers Association. In 2002, BI pioneered a steam sterilization process, known as Protexx HP® Green Steam™, which is the industry’s only species-specific, organic sterilization method. All BI ingredients undergo stringent quality analysis that includes heavy metal, pesticide and irradiation testing with a validated kill step. All BI ingredients are also tested under the company’s Identilok® species identification process. The company has also developed a proprietary process, UltraHD®, which creates high-density herbal powders allowing for superior flow and less dusting during the manufacturing process.
